TOC Feedback and Final Revisions
TOC Feedback and Final Revisions
After designing the two mockup covers in the previous blog, I chose one to allow my peers to provide me with feedback on. After having about 10 individuals revise and provide feedback on my TOC choice, I was able to have recommendations and tips to go off of when designing the final magazine TOC page. In this blog, I will be discussing and demonstrating the final changes that I made to improve the TOC and produce the final version. Let's take a look!
Feedback and Revisions:
While looking back at the feedback and the attached suggestions with it, I was able to point out the areas of improvement in the original TOC that you can see on the left.
To start, almost 85% of the feedback I received was regarding the font size I had used for the content of the pages below the page numbers. The comments said that the font size was way too small and therefore, it made the overall content look too packed and hard to read. The suggestions included increasing the font size and/or reducing the amount of content included. I decided to go with the first option as it allowed me to keep the original design while also improving the readability. As a result, I expended the size of the white content box to fill up more of the empty space on the right. From there, I increased the font size by 2 points. That small change was able to make a huge difference on the quality of the text. I also increased the size of the masthead by about 6 points so that it can be told apart from the rest of the text up on the top. From there, I also widened the text boxes so that they were centered as far as their placement on the white box. This allowed for a balance between the white background and the actual text. These changes allowed for a better-quality magazine TOC which can be seen in the image below.
Conclusion:
The feedback session that my peers and I did was extremely helpful to improving my final table of contents. The suggestions I received regarding the font and sizes was very crucial to making the final page. It looks way more professional and modern now, along with having better quality as it is now more readable. The ultimate magazine TOC produced has a better overall design and looks put-together. Now that I have made the final TOC, I will start working on the 2-page spread article derived from one of the page headers above. That will be the concluding piece of the magazine pages which will mark the complete design.
